WBM Himalayan Salt Lamp Review

You may have heard or read about the benefits of having a Himalayan salt lamp in your home.

I have been wanting one of these salt crystal lamps ever since my first encounter with it at a spa massage. The warm, soothing orange glow has such a therapeutic and relaxing feeling that captured my interest and curiosity.

At that time, I was doing a little research to look into ways to eliminate positive ions from my home environment as I just began working from home. My work studio feels a tad too stuffy and I realized that I was often feeling irritable and fatigued after working on the computer (and surrounded by so many electronic devices) for long hours.

If you are new to positive and negative ions, you can take a look at one of my earlier post: Tranquil Purification: The Magic of the Himalayan Salt Lamp

My research and spa encounter then led me to the Himalayan salt lamp. To be honest, I was a little lost in the beginning. There are so many suppliers and types of salt lamps available! How can I be sure that I’m getting the right one?

Since we are talking about natural Himalayan Salt Crystal Lamp, I figured that the most important factor is to choose a trusted and reliable supplier. I want to be sure I’m getting the real stuff.

This is why my search led me to choose WBM Himalayan Salt Lamp.

WBM is a specialist supplier of Himalayan salt products. Their salt lamps come in a multitude of sizes, ranging from 7 inches to 13 inches. A simple search, and you will find that WBM LLC has the best-selling salt lamps on Amazon.

I decided to buy 2 sets of the WBM Himalayan Salt Light #1002. This is the most popular size of 8-9 inches, weighing approximately 8-11 lbs. It also comes with a 6 ft power cord, 25 Watt light bulb. The base is made of Neem wood, known for its durable and termite free properties. The base is very sturdy and looks nice.

One is to be placed on my work desk in my home office and the other for my bedroom.

And here’s what I think of them…

First of all, these salt lamps are supposed to be natural and hand-crafted in Pakistan. So I wasn’t exactly surprised that the 2 lamps I received are not identical in shape and shades. 1 of them emits a slightly lighter glow than the other.

But nonetheless, I LOVE the natural amber glow that both salt lamps emit once lit. I was blown away by the beauty of these lights and the ambience it create. It’s simply soothing and creates a feeling of warmth.

WBM Himalayan Salt Lamp Dimmer Switch

I also love the fact that the salt lamps from WBM has a dimmer switch, so I can choose how far to turn it up depending on how much light I need. I leave it on all day and dim it at night while I sleep. I am usually very sensitive to lights in the bedroom, but surprisingly I’m able to sleep well with the salt lamp dimmed. The light is very soft and warm, unlike the harsh lights of many night lamps, making the room feel very cozy.

The light is very soft and warm, unlike the harsh lights of many night lamps, making the room feel very cozy. I wished I had found this as a nightlight earlier, when I had to wake for the late-night feedings with my newborn.

Why Do You Need A Himalayan Salt Lamp In Your Home?

Most people, including myself, bought the salt lamp because of the health benefits of the negative ions it emits and improved air quality.

I do feel a noticeable difference in the air. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s not exactly an A-HA moment when you switch on the lamp.

It’s hard to tell how much they work or to quantify it scientifically. So I tried to experiment it over a few weeks… sleeping with the lamp on all night for a week, another week with it off, then on again.

I do think that it helps with the dust, the air smells and feels fresher, and the room feels less stuffy. It seems pretty cool as an all-natural replacement for the typical air purifier that so many of us need in our polluted cities.

The claims that the Himalayan salt lamps can help to alleviate respiratory problems also seem to have some truth as well. My husband suffers from sinus and seasonal allergies and the salt lamp has worked wonders in easing his snoring and allergies. His sleep quality has improved and he notices that his nose is not as congested when he wakes up in the morning.

Energy Booster And A Great Conversational Pieces For Visitors To Your Home

WBM Lamp In The Dark

As mentioned earlier, I have another salt lamp sitting on my work desk. As I am working from home, I spend the majority of my time in my work studio surrounded by computer and electronic devices. Just imagine the amount of positive ions I’m bombarded with in an enclosed environment!

I was suffering from frequent headaches and was often easily irritable.

I needed something to neutralise these positive ions which are sapping away my energy. This is where the Himalayan crystal salt lamp comes in to help. The salt crystal lamp releases negative ions into the air when lit, which then latch onto the positive ions, cancelling them out.

Nowadays, most of us are constantly exposed to an ocean of electromagnetic (EM) radiation. With modern technology, we are constantly have multiple electronics running at the same time, such as television, computer, mobile phone, tablet, stereo and many more. While the electronic radiation and positive ions are invisible, constant exposure can cause high stress levels and chronic fatigue as the imbalance of the positive and negative ions can impact our well-being and mood.

The Himalayan salt lamp is therefore a source of negative ions, or in another words, a source of positive energy that can help to energize and rejuvenate you.

Negative ions are also said to promote the oxygen flow from the lungs to the brain. That does help in keeping you alert, less prone to sleepiness and allowing you to focus better.

All in all, I do feel that my energy levels and mood have improved after the addition of the salt lamp to my work studio and having it switched on 24/7. You’ll probably be disappointed if you expect to see instantaneous results, but you should be able to feel a difference after a week or so.

I have received so many compliments on my salt crystal lamp from visitors to my home.

People are always asking about what it is, where I got it and what It does, especially if they are not familiar with salt lights.

A “Sweating” Salt Lamp?

If you’ve done some simple research, you might have read some users’ experience of their lamp sweating and melting. What exactly does it mean, why does it happen and what to do when it happens?

Salt is hygroscopic by nature. This means that that they absorb microscopic water droplets from the surrounding air. In fact this is the mechanism of how the salt crystal lamps purifies the air, as the contaminants are trapped in the salt crystal while the heat from the salt lamp evaporates the purified water back into the surrounding air.

You’ll notice a salt lamp sweating when the rate at which it absorbs water is faster than evaporation. This can happen if the surrounding is very humid. Hence it is advisable to keep the salt lamps away from wet areas like the kitchen, laundry room and bathroom.

Another way is to leave the lamp on 24/7, which is what I am doing since the salt crystal lamp only releases negative ions when the light (heat source) is switched on. Don’t worry about chalking up a hefty electricity bill as the lamp is not energy intensive.

There are some cautionary notes to taking care of your crystal lamp. It is written in small prints on the user manual so do take note of them. The manufacturer has advised against using the salt lamp outdoor and to place the lamp on a coaster or placement to avoid any damage to your furniture in case your salt lamp “sweats”.

If you live in a very humid climate such that the salt crystal will always sweat, you can use a dry lint-free cloth to pat the salt crystal dry when you see a build-up of moisture on its outer surface. If you notice your bulb flickering, it might mean that the bulb housing has come into contact with the moisture or become damaged. Depending on the problem, you might need to fix the bulb housing or replace the cord assembly. However, always remember to switch off the power supply first and letting the bulb cool down first before carrying out any inspection.

Taking Care Of Your Salt Lamp

Assembly of the lamp was a breeze. Maintaining and taking care of your lamp is simple too.

If your lamp is starting to look dirty (from attracting dust), simply moisten a cloth (note that the cloth should be damp but not wet), gently wipe away the dust from the surface and pat dry with a lint-free cloth. Note: You should only do so after switching off and unplugging the lamp, and letting the salt crystal cool down to room temperature.

The Himalayan salt crystal can last a long time, so you’ll be pleased to know that WBM also sells replacement bulbs on Amazon which makes it so convenient!

My Experience With Delivery

My WBM Himalayan salt lamps and cardboard were damp when they arrived, though I’ve read reviews from some customers that their cardboard package arrived totally wet out. After patting it with a dry lint-free cloth, I sat them out and they dried out and worked fine.

I’ve read that it is naturally for salt lamps to sweat in the process of shipping because of the humidity trapped inside the packaging. And do be careful when opening the package, as there could be “salt beads” falling off the lamps.

Here’s a little note: Don’t freak out when the UPS guy hands you a pile of wet cardboard… It really depends on the time of the year and the humidity in your area:)

My Verdict: Health benefits aside, I could see how these salt lights can work in almost any rooms because of its charming glow.

I must say that these salt lamps are not MEGA negative ions producers such as the waterfalls, beaches or thunderstorm. But realistically, this is next best alternative I can think of – something natural, convenient affordable and can fit into my home.

I’m definitely going to get at least one more for my living room. It will work like a charm in creating a relaxing ambiance. For better coverage of a bigger space, I’ll need a larger one but that will be heavier and more difficult to move around. Alternatively, I can get multiple lamps and spread them out for the same effect.

Where Can I Buy The WBM Himalayan Salt Lamp?

Personally, I’ll make my purchase through

First of all, I get to enjoy customer service from both WBM and Amazon.

I’ve refunded and returned a few items on Amazon before and I like the fact how easy it is. Moreover, for heavier items, I prefer to have them delivered, rather than having to carry it all the way from the mall. As a Prime member, shipping is always within 2 days and free, so I’ll usually make a list of things to buy, and opt to have them delivered together.

WBM LLC offers a 30 day warranty. It warrants the lamp to be free from any defects related to its material and workmanship. In case of a defect found within this 30 day warranty period WBM LLC promises a replacement of the same. I was assured after looking through the customer reviews on Amazon and knowing that the replacement process was generally speedy and quick.
